Christian music has undergone some major changes over the years. Most will tell you that modern Christian music was born of the Jesus movement. Larry Norman was an early pioneer in the genre. There was also a mainstream movement during the sixties that got the message out there. There was even a popular song by Ocean that made it onto the mainstream charts.
“Put Your Hand in the Hand” was a very good God song. It really became popular among a broad audience. There was however unforeseen blowback from fellow Christians. They feared that these bands were not capable of delivering the message in a good way. The resistance could not overpower the will of the people. Christian music started to gain momentum.
The bandwagon effect became the next problem for the genre. There were Christian songs being produced by bands who were lacking in the talent department. The demand was high Cheap Real Madrid Jersey , unfortunately the supply of talented Christian artists was lacking. In a move of desperation the record companies chose to release music that was not of the greatest quality. The motivation behind these bands choosing to perform Christian music is something I personally am not sure of. Only God and the actual artists know that.
In time Christian music started to see a flood of real talent. Artists that were Christians started to embrace their beliefs. The Christian songs that started being produced were of a much better quality. In 1972 a Christian band called Petra was formed. The eighties saw a great increase in popularity for Petra
Petra’s popularity continued into the 90’s. Other styles of Christian music began to emerge. For just about every style of music there was a counterpart in Christian music. Finally the genre had become fully fledged. It was overflowing with talented musicians.
Christian music perhaps saw its greatest growth during the 90’s. Bands like DC Talk bridged a gap between grunge and hip hop. Gangsta rap was also big at the time. Christian rappers like Tbone had an answer for that. These days Christian music is a well established music genre. It’s no longer playing catch up with mainstream music. There are some Christian musicians who are even setting the trends themselves.
Bands like Jars of Clay often release albums that debut on the charts. Christian songs are regularly featured in films and T.V. There will always be naysayers. Hopefully this will not discourage people from enjoying this fabulous music.
